Texas Supreme Court Allows Greens to Certify Candidates
Republican Court calls for additional briefing next week

The Green Party/Republican ballot scheme has grown into a full-scale scandal for Governor Rick Perry. Sworn testimony in State District Court, as well as information obtained through deposition, has revealed that Rick Perry’s closest political associates have worked closely with Green Party leaders to field Green Party candidates in hopes of siphoning votes away from Bill White and other Democrats.

The ballot scam centered around Republican political operatives – including former Perry Chief of Staff Mike Toomey – funding a signature gathering project in order to qualify Green Party candidates. Ultimately, over $500,000 from a secret donor was funneled through a nonprofit corporation to pay for the signatures gathered. The Texas Democratic Party filed suit to block the effort citing Texas election law banning the use of corporate money in State elections.
